Oh, so Emo. . .

Saturday, May 5th, 2007

I saw Spiderman 3 at midnight Thursday. It was pretty awesome. And, as mentioned in the title, Peter Parker went totally emo for a bit. Personally, I don’t know if I can compare it to the first and second movie and say that it was better. It was just different, and there were a lot of elements of story line that original took place over years of comic book continuity into two and a half hours of film. And I’m sure that’s the heavily edited version of Sam Raimi’s creation.

And when did Harry (James Franco) get so hot. He had me with those chocolate brown eyes. I might just suffer through Tristan and Isolde and Annapolis just to see him again. [After reading his bio on imdb.com] Man, I forgot he was in The Company, playing a chef, even. I totally saw that movie.

.

Next Thursday I’ll be in New York and Canada with my sisters. We’ll be in Canada for the first  4 days, so if anyone can suggest some places to visit it would be much appreciated. We have things will be doing, like visiting the branch offices of Jehovah’s Witnesses for a tour. We’re also going to Niagara Falls.

I’m really excited about this great photo experience, so I have to remember my extra battery, memory cards and such.

.

I missed posting my Photo Week blog last week, mostly because I didn’t take many pictures. But I’ll catch up now.

My first blackberry of the season.

I saw Disturbia twice. Don’t sleep on Shia LaBoeuf.

This is Melody. She’s been my barista a few times at a new Starbucks location near my old college. I thought she so cute, and she’s always been really friendly. So, I finally asked if I could take her photo.

After taking Melody’s portrait, this guy comes and asks me about my camera. He’s interested in photography, and we chatted briefly about how lenses are almost prohibitively expensive. Anyway, I think he’s the manager or something, because I’ve seen him at another Starbucks.

So, I got the job. . .

Thursday, February 22nd, 2007

Starting Monday, I’ll be a productive member of the working world. My first ever full time job, besides being a student. Surreal, I know, but that’s how my life worked out. I’ll be working as a typsetter/desktop publisher. I believe I’ll also be learning the 4-color printing process, which I’m really looking forward to. Unfortunately, I won’t be doing any designing, but I’m fine with that. I still have opportunities for freelance and fine art.

Tomorrow, my sister and I are headed off to Destin, FL to attend a friend’s wedding in which I’ll also be photographing. It’s my first job of this kind, and I’m really humbled for her to be putting such faith in my abilities on her special day. But, I get a free meal and dinner cruise along with the deal, so some wonderful shots are bound to come out of the experience. Gosh, I’m so far from packed for the thing, though. . .

Space Travel: Soul Powered Art Show

Tuesday, October 31st, 2006

The weekend in Jackson was pretty awesome. I really wish I could have stayed longer, but I had to be back home on Sunday. I drove with Crystal in her car to Jackson Friday night, checked into the hotel, and spend practically all afternoon Saturday at seven*studios. It was cool though. There was a lot going on. There was a skate crew doing tricks out front, and a crew was tagging the wall on the side of the building. It took so many photos, I decided to make a separate gallery for them all. Daylight Savings Time saved me a bit, cuz I got to get an extra hour of sleep. Still I was dead tired by Sunday afternoon.

Here’s my the piece I did for the show:

This my piece at seven*studios. The printed version was 12″ x 24″. Kendall got it printed for me in Jackson, and I brought up the matte and frame.

I didn’t win anything. I wasn’t eligible because all the prizes were local, and I wouldn’t be able to use them. Thanks for telling me beforehand, Ken. Not. *shakes fist* . . . But it was still a good experience. I’ve never done anything like this before, and there’s some interest to buy my print, so all is well. But anyway, browse the gallery for more photos and commentary.

Niceville, Chris portrait

Sunday, December 28th, 2003

Wednesday I went with Jamaal to Niceville, FL. He had to go to Eglin AFB to check in to prove that he didn’t go more than half way across the country for his leave. While there, our friend Chris chauffered us around. He wanted to stop at this store that we passed by called the Philippine Market, he being Filipino and all. So we went there and picked up various forms of Asian food, mostly snacks. Chris rented a couple of Filipino movies. The people there were so nice that when we were about to leave, the offered to let us sit down and have a share in their shrimp dinner. We declined the offer, but Jamaal got some shrimp for the road.

Friday, Jamaal and I went to a store called the Asian Market here in Mobile. We wanted to get some more Pocky, which is this japanese snack consisting of this thin pretzel like stick dipped in chocolate. The didn’t have the Pocky, but they did have this stuff called Yan Yan which is pretty similar, but the sticks and the dip are separated, and were in strawberry and vanilla flavor. I also bought an Asian pear. When I was in high school, my 11th grade PACE teacher brought some for the class one day. They’re really juicy and to me are like what would happend if a pear and an apple had a baby. I also got these little cake things that tasted like funnel cakes without the powdered sugar, but with sesame seeds on top. I didn’t find out what they were called, but I’m definitely going back to get more of those.

Oh, and I also drew a portrait of Chris, but I don’t have it w/ me now. So I’ll scan it and post it probably before the day is over.
