27.

Monday, November 30th, 2009

A great many things occurred this past month:
• I got a tumblr account.
• My sister got married.
• I participated in NaNoWriMo for the second year. I didn’t win, but it was fun.
• I’m 27 now.

That last bullet is a doozy. As I was updating my age on the various profiles I have online, I was blindsided by an overwhelming feeling of “oh my God.” That’s the best approximation I can give to it. I am in my late twenties now and I believe a result of this is the sudden grown-up feeling I have when thinking about doing certain things, like washing dishes, cleaning my room, applying for jobs and seriously considering learning how to cook whole meals rather than random dishes like rice, box-macaroni and cheese or scrambled eggs.

November: a day for a year

Sunday, December 2nd, 2007

11.02.2007 – Travis from Gym Class Heroes performs for the Young Wild Things Concert Tour in Orange Beach, AL. They were my favorite act of the night, and they performed my favorite of their songs, so it was cool seeing them live.

11.03.2007 – Vincent, age 4. He’s such a cutie.

11.08.2007 – Another late night.

11.09.2o07 – Service awards were presented to employees for their years of working for the company. Food followed. I wasn’t too thrilled about the hamburgers and hot dogs, but the potato salad catered by Naman’s was hittin’. That’s Jessica hamming it up.

11.15.2007 – I have too many photos of myself in the mirror wearing this shirt.

11.16.2007

My sis working on a suit she’s wore on the Special Assembly Day.

While attempting to take my self portrait for the day at work one evening, the shutter fired prematurely.

11.22.2007 – Chloe, age 5.

11.22.2o07 – Maria, age 3.

11.22.2007 – Chloe’s not too thrilled about Maria’s affections.

But, they manage to make peace coloring together. . .

. . . and playing together.

11.25.2007 – Special Assembly Day. It’s Cynthia, looking lovely. I shot her wedding back in February.

11.25.2o07 – Laura and baby Tyler. He’s so precious.

11.25.2007 – Nicole. . .details, details.

11.30.2007 – The caboose. I’ve developed a fondness for the jeans sold at Buckle.

And, I’m 25 now.

Where the wild things were

Sunday, November 4th, 2007

Saturday night I attended the Young Wild Things Tour featuring Fall Out Boy, Gym Class Heroes, Plain White T’s, and Cute Is What We Aim For at the Wharf in Orange Beach, AL. It was about an hour and a half drive, because that was my first time going there, traffic was backed up going across the Bay Way that time of day (6:30ish), and it was dark. And The Wharf, I found, is way out in the boonies.

shots of November

Sunday, November 12th, 2006

What have I been doing so far this month? Not much, actually. Things kind of build up in culmination at the Soul Powered Show, and now I’m broke, trying to focus and finishing up the last few weeks of school and doing commissions to tide me over financially until then.

As always, I’ve been taking photos. My little sister said something to me a little while ago that I found so funny. I asked me to take a picture of something, and I guess I was taking to long with it, and she said finally,

“Sharon, you don’t have to take a photograph. Just take a picture.”

Laura’s awesome like that.

Salt print in the fixer.

Tongs labeled to use for different alternative photographic processes.

The advanced darkroom.

I haven’t been able to bite my nails since I got my braces. My nails grew out, so I painted them, which I hadn’t done in a loooong time. The color is “Holly Days” a really dark green. I bought it from Bath & Body Works like 5 years ago and it’s still good.

My younger sister Nicole being glamorous.

Another late night or being bored into taking photos of myself.

Commissioned pages with which I will soon part. Done for Arson Entertainment.

Saturday – My sister’s study, waiting to be baptized.

Playing with extended shutter speeds. It’s the lights on the ceiling of the Mobile Civic Center.

We ate at a Chinese Restaurant I’d never been to. I really liked the lanterns hanging outside. I was having trouble with my AutoFocus, though, and this is one of the first shots. I liked how it came out, though.

Nicole, in the outfit she made for the Special Assembly Day.

My hair had grown out of the cut, but I can’t afford to go to the stylist. Saturday night I resolved to trim it myself. I’ve done it before but it’s been, like, years ago. I didn’t cut off as much as I wanted in the back, mainly because I couldn’t see it. I like it though. It looks really good tousled.

The aftermath.

Sorry for the lack of art. I have drawn a few things. I’ll try to have them up in the next post.
