en dejlig rosa

Saturday, June 14th, 2008

I should really be posting photos right now, however, I came across this beautiful song on youtube sung by the talented Robyn. I remember when she had two hits in the U.S. in the late 90’s (I feel so old saying that). I was still in high school then.

Anyway, the video is from two years ago, when she was performing “En Dejlij Rosa (A Rose So Fair)” at the memorial for the tsunami victims. I had only heard her sing in English before, but I knew that she was Swedish. There’s just something so beautiful about her voice here. . .Enjoy.

Where the wild things were

Sunday, November 4th, 2007

Saturday night I attended the Young Wild Things Tour featuring Fall Out Boy, Gym Class Heroes, Plain White T’s, and Cute Is What We Aim For at the Wharf in Orange Beach, AL. It was about an hour and a half drive, because that was my first time going there, traffic was backed up going across the Bay Way that time of day (6:30ish), and it was dark. And The Wharf, I found, is way out in the boonies.

Getting Busy Living

Sunday, April 1st, 2007

Whelp . . . I just got home from the movie theater. Tyler Perry’s Daddy’s Little Girls was one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen. I mean, there are movies that I know are cheesy and formulaic (like Stomp the Yard), but I still enjoy them because I personally find them entertaining. For example, I enjoyed Tyler Perry’s two previous feature film endeavors, Diary of a Mad Black Woman and Madea’s Family Reunion. Unfortunately, this review pretty much sums up my opinion of his latest film.

So, looks like I’ll stick to rentals and purchases until May movie madness. This weekend I chose to satisfy the request of a friend and rented the Back to the Future Trilogy. I remember what happened in the first movie, but the last two are very sketchy in my memory.

While I’m going on about entertainment, I suppose I’ll mention that the new album from Amy Winehouse (Back to Black) is awesome, so if you like Lauryn Hill, Corinne Bailey Rae, John Legend and the like, you’ll probably like her. The girl can sang; and she has a story to tell. I’m also digging the new Fall Out Boy, Infinity on High.

The new job is going fine, however, I interviewed for another job at an aviation firm, but decided not to take it. So, I thought I my curiosity was satisfied, and I could focus on the world of wholesale printing. Then, someone calls me from this company that I’d applied to a few months ago to see if I was still interested in working there. I’m like, “tschyeah.” I’d love the opportunity to have a job where I’d be doing actual graphic design, but I’m not dissatisfied with the one I have right now. So, probably in the next two weeks I’ll interview with them. Thankfully I’m in a position in my life where I can explore different employment opportunities.

Jessica and her pin-up covering paper dolls; Margaret and her vomiting cat.

The only thing about my job is that my time for art has suffered. I’ve been doing hardly any, safe for two character drawings of my workmates. I may do more, because it’s quite fun. Realistically, I can find time to do art if I really want. I’m still late with the last jam at sba, and now there’s a new one up. So, I’ll try to cram for that

The Consumer in Me

Tuesday, December 12th, 2006

I love this song, and the new video is cute as well. I first heard the song when I was researching the band after my sister mentioned that she liked them after seeing the video for “The Queen and I” on The N. I found that a lot of their videos were posted on YouTube. I ended up buying the album from iTunes. I like it. A lot of the songs are silly and fun, and a bit cheesy at times, but all around it’s a good listen.

So, about the title of the entry, I ordered a bunch of stuff today:
• 3 shirts from forever21.

• 3 pairs of shoes from journey’s, including another pair of Onitsukas. I also got a cute bag.

• 1 30G iPod, black from Apple.

I suppose the iPod was a little graduation gift to myself. The thing is, I like to buy cool things, including clothes, but I don’t like to drop a bunch of money on stuff, and usually go straight to the “sale” or “clearance” section. However, I will drop the dough on things like computers & electronics, because you definitely get what you pay for in that regard. Sometimes, however, it’s good to put down the extra buck on clothing, because I’ve discovered that the nicer stuff is a bit more expensive, but you’re paying for the quality.

Seriously, though, I’m in desperate need of some new shoes, but I’m the practical type that want’s to be able to wear stuff with more than one outfit. Sometimes it’s hard finding the pair that’s just right. I also still need to purchase a winter coat. I didn’t have much luck finding something I really liked on line, so it looks like I’ll have to brave the holiday crowds and go to the mall and try to find something.

.

Well, now that I’m done with school and have all this free time on my hands before I get a job, I suppose I can work on some art that’s way overdue to be finished. My friend Ashely got me a sketchbook as a graduation gift, so I’ll be breaking that in over the holiday.

I would also like to do some photo shoots and independent graphic desingn stuff to exercise my skills and help my portfolio. It’s gotten no love, lately.
