some things around me

Saturday, October 11th, 2008

Well, now that all that WordPress nonsense is, for the most part, sorted out, I can finally get on with the post I had originally planned to make last night.

I got a new shirt from Old Navy.

My first slice of pumpkin loaf of the season. Yumm.

artgyrl.com renewed

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

After over a year of having it languish in cyberspace, I finally redesigned and updated my website: artgyrl.com.

artgyrl.com
I still have at least 3 galleries of work to add (graphic design, photography, and sketchbook), but It’s a big improvement on what was there before. I did some serious house cleaning. It’s still to be determined how I will organize my old work, as I want to keep it available for viewing so y’all can see a progression of my artistic style.

Let me know what you think.

So, about this weight thing

Friday, February 15th, 2008

I’ve never been one to be overly concerned about my weight. I’ve been pretty slim most of my life. However, during, I gained about 30 pounds, bringing my body type to what most people would call average. I still wasn’t “fat.” But I definitely wasn’t in shape either. However, over the past year, I’d been more attentive to my body and my slow weight gain. It gets kinda old not being able to fit into your favorite shirt. And, after purchasing this really cute pencil skirt from Old Navy.com and having the fit be a little to snug, I resolved not to gain any more weight, but actually, for a change, try and lose some until the the skirt fit comfortably. It was really cute, after all.

So, I did that. I guess I lost about 5-7 lbs for the skirt to fit awesomely. Then I kinda stopped. I’m not opposed to physical activity, but I’ve discovered that I seriously dislike working out in a gym. I like doing “activities” like walking around/exploring a new place, but not doing it just to be exercising. Or doing laundry and folding clothes, cleaning up my room. Things like that.

The last few months or so, I decided to see if I could lose some more weight. I figured out that I have a relatively small frame, and I don’t like junk food. As long as I watch the proportions of food, I could lose weight pretty easily. Since turning 25 a few months ago, I realized that the older I get, the harder it will be to lose any weight, so I might as well do as much as I can right now. So, much thanks to Panera and their awesome soups, as well as just not eating everything, I’ve managed to loose about 10 more pounds. Great, right? Not so great when all the new clothes I just bought are slightly baggy now, including my expensive jeans from Buckle. However, they do free tailoring, so that’s a consolation, at least.

And then there’s the moment when I catch my reflection in the mirror, and see how slim my arms have gotten, and that my tummy isn’t so round and I think to myself, “Hey, I’m getting kinda hot.”

Featured

Tuesday, March 20th, 2007

It’s always great to have one’s work published or featured. It’s a good way to get exposure, and it shows that other people like your work enough to not only take notice, but feel the need to share it with others.

So, it was really great when I got a note on my dA account informing me that one of my photographs was being featured in a news article on the site. Check it out. My photo is the last one on the fourth row.

Also, I’m pretty sure that one of my photographs will be published in this year’s volume of Oracle. It’s a literary and fine arts journal published by the University of South Alabama.

And then there’s my submissions to Issue 10 of JPG Magazine. It’d be really awesome if one of my works got published. I submitted photos in each of the 3 themes for the issue: Entropy, Breakthrough, and Beauty Redefined.

I’ve been more focused on photography lately and have had offers to be commissioned, or interest rather. It’s be really funny if I turned out to be a really successful photographer, seeing how unstudious (is that a word?) I was in class. But then, it wasn’t that I was a bad photographer, it was just hard for me to adjust to the idea of coming up with concepts and then executing them on film.

Anyway, there’s a drawing I really need to start on for the current sketch jam over at SBA. . .

retirement

.070: work station
Me @ my work station.

So they had this retirement luncheon at work for a woman who’s been working at the company for 15 years to the day. She’s their first retiree, so it was especially memorable. The free food wasn’t bad either.

It was weird celebrating and I’d just gotten there and had barely gotten acquainted with the woman. Well, c’est la vie.

Out with the old, in with the new. . .

Let them eat cake.

The beloved retiree. A cookie if you can guess her name.
