hello, (ides of) march | robyn + marian

March 15, 2016 by Sharon | 0 comments

Yeah, that’s what today is. Apparently the Romans had this whole system for naming the point they were in the month. Pretty interesting stuff.

Incidentally, this is my first post of 2016. A few things have been going on behind the scenes here at artgyrl, and I’ve just failed to update my blog here. I’ve been pushing my Patreon more, uploading more exclusive art there. I finally got going with developing and drawing my comic. Recent updates will be posted exclusively to Patreon first and then here. So consider subscribing if you would like to get a first look at my new content. I won’t bore you with all the details here, so click the link for more info. :)

Some sketches of Robyn and Marian, the main characters of my comic. I drew it in a handmade sketchbook, so I’m not sure of the paper, probably about 80lb, colored with Copic and Spectrum Noir markers, outlined with Staedtler Pigment Liners, and highlights with a Uni-ball gel pen.

I’m on Patreon

support artgyrl on patreon

I’ve started an account on the site Patreon. It’s a lot like Kickstarter, but instead of obtaining funding for one big project, an artist can get support for smaller projects on a monthly basis. You can set a limit to how much you donate, but there are various rewards I’ve set up depending on how much you give. (The CEO of Patreon is Jack Conte, one half of the musical duo Pomplamoose, which makes it even more awesome.)

I have quite a few projects in the works, so it would be great to get financial support to help with the expenses. And you’re not getting something for nothing. I have a variety of rewards depending on how much you donate. So…win/win. :)

This time of year is the slow season at my job, so I think it’s an ideal time to get all these projects in the works. I will be sharing more info (sketches mostly) regarding my comic project. I’m planning on posting it free for you guys to read, eventually compiling it into book form, if all goes well.

Thanks you for the support. I hope you find something you’d like to contribute toward.

In other news, I’m taking my photography more seriously. I’m available for bookings this fall. [Sharon Samples Photography]

Two posts in a month, y’all. Progress.
