Firstly, a new look:

I’m growing my hair out natural, so braids were the next step in the evolution of my hair style. I haven’t had braids since I was 13, and I’ve never had a style like this. It pays to have a talented little sis.
Secondly, My friends Azalea and Sam, who I did the maternity shoot for in October, welcomed a healthy baby girl into the world on Monday: Jernigan. My sis and I rode over to P’cola to see the newly expanded family. I was so in awe to go from taking pics of while Jernigan was in gestation to holding a real live person who came out so perfect. Awesome.

I was awakened this morning by my older sister.
“Sharon,” she said as she entered the darkened recesses of my room. “You got a package in the mail. It was too big to fit in the mailbox.”
It took only a moment for me to register she was saying, and what I could possibly have received. It was too soon for my Old Navy order of my new checks to have arrived.
“Ooh!” I sat up quickly to meet the package in her profferred hand. A white cardboard envelope with the distinctive dA logo emblazoned on the top center. It was the calendar I had ordered from dA as a result of an email I received announcing a sale they were having on those items. I followed the link and scrolled the selection, thinking getting an art-themed wall calendar would be a good investment in my goal of becoming more organized. So, in the form of Parka Blogs, here’s what I got.

Just a bit of art that I’m working on. I started on this drawing three different times, and finally was able to get the anatomy down acceptably. It was only after I photographed the drawing that I realized how overly long the proportions are. I think I can fix it in Photoshop, though, without having to do too much redrawing.
I think both guys’ shoulders could be broader, too. I’m so used to drawing girls and their curves.
Ah well. I a few minor adjustments to make, and then I will be adding inks, maybe some gray tones.

It’s been months since I’ve seen anything in the movie theater. I broke that habit this weekend, though, as I joined family and friend to take in The Day the Earth Stood Still. It was blah. Not horrible, but not terribly good either. Keanu Reeves was cast perfectly as the emotionless alien. Jaden Smith was pretty good. John Cleese seemed a bit wasted. I got the feeling that the scene with him was supposed to be much longer.
So, the best thing about the movie was the beginning. More specifically, it was before the movie even started. We drove across the bay to The Rave theater. By the time we got into the theater, the trailers were already playing, about halfway through the Wolverine Origins trailer. Funny thing is, most of the group I was with stopped at the foot of the stairs up to the stadium seats to watch the rest of the trailer. I’m not really feeling Taylor Kitsch as Gambit, but I’m glad to finally see Remy LeBeau at all. Liev Shreiber looks to be giving a pretty wicked portrayal of Sabretooth, though.
